Aug 04, 2014 07:32 PM EDT

The MLB playoffs standings for 2014 currently has division leaders in the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers and LA Dodgers, while the AL and NL wild card teams are the Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals heading into the meat of August.

The Orioles are leading the AL East and they have a solid lead over the Toronto Blue Jays and the NY Yankees, while the Rays and Red Sox are out of the race. The Detroit Tigers have a five game lead and they have the largest lead in baseball, while the Royals and Indians are still alive in the wild card race. The Oakland Raiders are just one game ahead of the Los Angeles Angels and they are trying to win the division after trading for Jon Lester, as they want no part of that wild card elimination game.

The NL East has the Nationals in first place and the Atlanta Braves have faded a bit in the standings, but are still a few games back. The Milwaukee Brewers have just a one game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals and a 1.5 game lead over the Pirates and Cincinnati still remains alive in the race at 4.5 games back and they are also in wild card contention. The Dodgers are leading the NL West and they are playing a massive series with the Angels coming up and they are up over the San Francisco Giants, while the Padres are way out of it.

The American League wild card has the Angels and Blue Jays in the top two spots and right now Toronto has a 1.5 game lead over the Yankees and Royals, while the Mariners are two games back. The Royals, Yankees, Mariners and the Indians are all chasing the second wild card and right now it looks like the Angels have that first spot locked up. The Rays and Indians are alive in the standings, but they have teams they need to hop over.

The National League wild card has the San Francisco Giants and the Cardinals in the top two spots, while the Pirates are right there for the division in the central and the second spot. The Braves are two games back and the Reds and Marlins are also in the mix.
