The Milwaukee Brewers have been enjoying a great season from pitcher Wily Peralta while the San Francisco Giants cannot say the same for newly acquired Jake Peavy. Peralta is sitting at the top of the MLB standings while Peavy would simply like a win. As the two teams face off in a Thursday game, which National League team will keep pace for the playoffs?
Peralta has been on a roll for the Brewers. He is 13-6 with a 3.52 ERA and looking to become the first major league pitcher to get 14 wins at this point in the season. Since giving up nine runs to the Philadelphia Phillies back in early July, Peralta has gone 4-0 with a 1.71 ERA, looking sharper than ever. He gave up just two runs in over six innings to St. Louis on Friday and looks to keep pace against the Giants.
Peralta went 11-15 with a 4.37 ERA last season and is blowing those stats away this season. He has one start against the Giants where he allowed six runs in four innings. Pablo Sandoval went 2 for 5 off Peralta, but could improve on that in this matchup as he is currently batting .414 with two home runs in his last seven games.
Sandoval's stats are helping contribute to the 5.3 runs the Giants are averaging during a streak that has seen them win five of seven after losing six straight games. The team will start Peavy who needs a win badly. He is 1-11 on season while being 0-2 with the Giants with a 4.85 ERA. Since getting traded, he has allowed four runs in each of his two starts. He looked like he could be getting the win against the New York Mets in his last start, until he allowed four runs in the seventh inning and was pulled. Since winning against the Toronto Blue Jays, Peavy is 0-11 with a 5.28 ERA in 17 starts. The Giants need him to bounce back and quickly.
