The Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers are playing live on the NFL preseason schedule for Week 1 and the matchup is live streaming from TV on the NFL Network and is from Qualcomm Stadium out in California and it's the first game of 2014 for both teams and while Tony Romo may not play, the starters should get some action and it starts up past 10 pm ET.
The first week of the preseason has some great matchups with Super Bowl rematches in the Ravens and 49ers along with the Broncos and Seahawks, while the Cowboys and Chargers is also a very good matchup. The Cowboys lost the chance to get into the playoffs after falling in the final game of the season to fall to 8-8 again and the Chargers made it in last season and won a great game over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Last season the team went 5-1 against the NFC East and that was a great record for the team, but the one they needed they couldn't get, as they lost to the Eagles in Week 17 and missed the playoffs. The team was 7-5 against the NFC last season and Dez Bryant is coming back after a fantastic season and he is looking to put up big numbers again and Romo likely will look at him quite a bit this season.
The Cowboys defense was horrible last season and they ranked 30th in passing yards per game and 27th in rushing yards per game and they need to improve both of those big time. The team is coming into the season with high expectations and they will play against the Chargers before matchup with the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2 of the preseason. The team travels to play Miami and then has a home game with the Denver Broncos before opening the season at home on FOX with the San Francisco 49ers.
Last year Romo had another fine season and nearly passed for 4,000 yards and he will not be in the lineup tonight, but that is not a big concern as he said he will be ready for the season and should play some in the preseason. The team also will have Jason Witten and DeMarco Murray out and that gives other players the chance to step up and prove themselves. Brandon Weeden will get the start for the team and that is good news for him, as he needs to get some work in after missing part of the offseason, but he could be a solid backup for Romo this year.
The Cowboys are in a weak division and with the Eagles coming back after a division title, everyone is gunning for them. The team also has the Giants and the Redskins to deal with and this should be a tough battle this year in the division standings.
