The Los Angeles Dodgers tried for several pitchers during the trade deadline. They sought out deals for David Price, Cole Hamels and Jon Lester. However, instead they acquired Kevin Correia to add to the already-impressive rotation. Now, the veteran pitcher will make his debut for the team as they hit the road to face the Atlanta Braves in a Monday night matchup.
Correia is a veteran arm for the Dodgers who is being used to give other pitchers a day off against 20 straight work days. Correia was acquired from the Minnesota Twins where he was 5-13 with a 4.94 ERA in 23 starts. The move came after the Dodgers signed Roberto Hernandez from the Philadelphia Phillies following an injury to Josh Beckett. Correia has not looked strong this season and has yielded four runs in his past two starts, but the Dodgers need his veteran arm and leadership.
The Atlanta Braves are coming off a weekend that saw them end their eight game losing streak by taking two of three from the Washington Nationals to help gain speed in the race for No. 1 in the National League East. The last time these two teams met, the Dodgers swept the Braves in three games. It started the eight game losing streak, something Atlanta would like to avoid this time around.
The Braves will start Julio Teheran who is 10-8 with a 2.92 ERA on the season. He lost his last start to the Dodgers after a battle with Clayton Kershaw. Despite striking out nine over eight innings, he got the loss thanks to a home run from Yasiel Puig. He also lost in his start to the Seattle Mariners after giving up six runs in six innings. If Teheran is going to bounce back, it will be at home where he is 4-1 with a 1.48 ERA in his last 11 outings. He will be battling Adrian Gonzalez who is hitting well against the Braves, going 5 for 13 with three doubles. He is in a stretch where he has gone 9 for 14 with three doubles and two home runs in four games.
