The Capital One Cup for the Football League Cup tournament is live on Tuesday for Round 1 with matches streaming from TV online and the games begin at 2:45 pm ET and 7:45 pm local time as the tournament gets underway following Derby and Carlisle yesterday and teams like Reading, Birmingham City, Bristol City, Blackburn, Barnsley, Cambridge United, Leeds United, Exeter, Charlton Athletic, Millwall and Oldham Athletic as well as Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday are in action.
The Football League Cup tournament is one of the most important in England and Wales and this year the teams will be looking to get started on the right foot. Manchester City has the title from last year and that was ahead of their English Premier League win and they took this title over Sunderland in a 3-1 match and that was at Wembley last March. The team has played well and they are looking to win it again along with another EPL title.
Last year Man City won this and the EPL title and they took the Premier League over Liverpool as well as Chelsea and Arsenal, all of whom are into the Champions League now. The first round has regional split matches and this year things start off on August 11 and 12 and the first match saw Derby take on Carlisle in the opening game and that had Derby win 2-0 to start things off.
The Rams now move along into the next round after the win and Derby has the chance to keep things going after the first round win. The manager of the winning team said his side could play better and that they will need to play better to have a chance at winning and moving into the next round again. Carlisle is from League Two and now they are coming off of a defeat and everyone else in the tournament is looking to start things off clean and the schedule picks up on Tuesday night.
This year the second round of the tournament will pick up later in August and then the Round 3 part of the tournament will be in late September. Things will continue throughout the year and in October the fourth round picks up before December has the fifth round. The semifinal first legs start up in January and the second legs will be late in the Month before the final and that is scheduled for March 1, 2015.
The first round has teams that were promoted in Luton Town and Cambridge United from League Two and the rest of the field that is left comes in after this round shakes out. Carlisle United hosted their match and fell and now teams are looking to take advantage on the first day to move into the next part of the tournament. Cardiff City is playing Coventry City and they did not get a bye like usual Premier League teams, as they were relegated and finished last in the EPL, while Norwich City and Fulham made it to the next round on bye.
