Jake Peavy is in the middle of the longest losing streak of his career. The pitcher is normally a guaranteed ace on the mound. He built that reputation over 13 yards. However, 2014 has been a different story for Peavy. He has been winless since April and he is hoping that a matchup against his former team, the Chicago White Sox, will help break his funk.
Peavy is doing all he can to get a win. If he can break his skid then the San Francisco Giants can avoid one of their very own. Peavy is 0-3 with a 4.82 ERA with the Giants while being 0-12 with a 5.25 ERA in 18 starts since a win on April 25. It is his only win this whoe season. It is certainly for lack of trying. Peavy is getting 2.76 runs of support while he was with the Red Sox and things are not improving with the Giants. In his last start, he gave up three runs and nine hits over six innings.
The Giants need Peavy to recover. The team has lost 13 of their last 18 while being six of seven at home. They are in the middle of a five-game losing streak where they have totaled just nine runs. They have lost six in a row twice this season and are at risk of doing it again as they sit six games back for first place in the National League West. Interleague play has also not been the kindest to San Francisco as they have lost five straight to the American League.
The White Sox will start Jose Quintana on the mound. The pitcher is 6-8 with a 3.04 ERA on the season. In his last 10 starts, Quintana has looked strong, going 3-1 with a 1.82 ERA. He was roughed up in his last start, giving up four runs in the fifth innings before being removed from the game.
