The Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have checked on NFL free agent offensive lineman Richie Incognito, as he remains on the market and unsigned since his issues with the Miami Dolphins last season and now he could be a fit for those teams, while the NY Giants, Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings also could use some OL help.
According to the Seattle Times and ESPN.com, the Buccaneers and Seahawks have looked into Incognito and while no deal is close at this time, something could happen this preseason. The Seahawks, Colts and Bucs have been mentioned as potential destinations and so far Incognito has received little interest since his issues with the Miami Dolphins.
The Seahawks currently have J.R. Sweezy at right guard and James Carpenter at left guard in their starting lineup and they could use some more depth behind them. According to NFL Insider Mike Garafolo, the Seahawks looked into Incognito and ESPN blogger Pat Yasinskas also wrote about the Bucs potential interest, but said a deal was unlikely.
From earlier this year: Many players, including Steelers safety Ryan Clark, has said that they would want a player like Incognito on their team. From a bit farther back, Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito has been the center of attention regarding the harassment and bullying accusations involving fellow lineman Jonathan Martin and while the incidents are being investigated, it may follow a pattern of behavior for Incognito, as he was seen on HBO's "Hard Knocks" in 2012 in a video pranking rookie tight end Michael Egnew and now Incognito is suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.
The Miami Dolphins led the league last season while giving up nearly 60 sacks and now they are trying to rework their offensive line after signing Branden Albert at left tackle. The Jaguars, Browns, Bills, Ravens, Jets and Eagles all were in the top 10 in sacks given up last season.
The Dolphins added offensive lineman Shelley Smith on a two-year, $5.5 million deal and now the Fins could have a totally remade offensive line after what happened last season. The Dolphins allowed over 50 sacks last season and led the league in that category and the running game was a mess as well and one reason for that was the terrible offensive line.
Albert comes in after signing a five-year, $46 million contract and the move was expected after Miami was mentioned in trade rumors last year when he was with the Chiefs. Tyson Clabo and Bryant McKinnie are over 30 years old and the team wants to get younger and now they are adding one of the best tackles in the league. Albert is 29 years old and he is expected to help the Dolphins improve the running game and protecting quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
