The Los Angeles Lakers, after making their blockbuster deal on July 4, acquiring two-time MVP Steve Nash, have become the NBA's hot topic discussion.
It seems like all the speculation and talk comes down to how they will bring a little more magic to their revamped roster.
Well if you want magic, why not go to Orlando and work out a deal for Dwight?
Dwight Howard, who by the way wants to be dealt to the Brooklyn Nets, has been at-the-center of a lot of NBA rumors this off season and it seems there will be no end to it all until he is finally dealt.
As physically strong Dwight Howard is, he holds little to no influence to where the Magic will trade him. The Magic understands that their All-Star wants out, but will only do so for the best deal offered up.
As of now Orlando would love to deal Howard for a player they see as equal value and have hinted they feel, Lakers center, Andrew Bynum is that guy.
It seems as though every Laker fan would not mind this phenomenon occurring, some are even wishing it does. Even former Laker-Legend Magic Johnson has publicly endorsed the acquisition of Howard.
There are only a few factors that separate Howard and Bynum; age, maturity, and numbers. Howard has Bynum beat for all three.
Well maybe two out of the three.
Bynum has acted immature when the Lakers were swept by Dallas, infamously tearing off his jersey when he was ejected for a flagrant foul in the 2011 playoffs. Even this past March, Bynum was benched by head coach Mike Brown for shooting an ill-advised three-point shot, only to make matters worse when questioned by the media about it.
Though the Lakers have had issues with Bynum's maturity in the past, the Magic front office can say they had similar maturity issues with their star center Dwight Howard.
Howard has brought inner private team issues to light; demand to be traded to only change his mind to stay through the 2012-13 season and we're still uncertain whether or not he demanded the termination of head Coach Stan Van Gundy. And after going through all of this, Howard demands to be traded yet again.
At least Dwight has a slight edge over Bynum in terms of health and his performance is significantly better.
But let's not forget the biggest advantage Bynum has, two NBA Championships and team chemistry with both Bryant and Gasol. Bynum knows how to play alongside with other players who aren't just standing at the perimeter, waiting to see if he can score some points off dunks.
It seems that it may not be a bad idea to keep Bynum this year and see how things work out with the team with the addition of Nash. The Lakers went this long without Howard, what's one more year going to hurt?
