Rajon Rondo Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings Deny Ben McLemore, Derrick Williams Deal as Kevin Love, Cavaliers Move Hurts PG Future in Free Agency

The Sacramento Kings have been going back and forth about a trade of Rajon Rondo. The Boston Celtics have been going back and forth on whether or not to make the point guard available. The team has been playing this game ever since Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were traded to the Brooklyn Nets. With one year left on his contract, it is not wrong to think the Celtics would deal Rondo if they were under the impression he would not re-sign for the future. The silence from team president Danny Ainge is not helping. However, the Kings are ending things on their part, adamantly denying there is no trade happening.

The Kings have had interest in Rondo all throughout last season. They have attempted deals in the past, but nothing ever truly came together. They have continued to look into Rondo since the offseason began, but according to sources there will be no deal happening between Sacramento and Boston for the point guard. Steve Kyler of BasketballInsiders.com is reporting that both teams and fully denying any kind of deal for Rondo was on the table/is on the table/will be on the table.

Reports have gone back and forth on this trade rumor for several months. It was first noted that the Kings wanted to trade for Rondo. Then they had the idea of trading for Josh Smith who would then recruit his friend Rondo in free agency next summer. Then Yahoo! Sports was reporting the Kings were offering Ben McLemore and Derrick Williams along with a draft pick for the point guard. Nothing ever came of it and nothing ever will, at least for this season.

Plenty of people are questioning whether or not Rondo intends on re-signing with the Celtics. Rondo obviously wants to compete and the Celtics' roster is not ready to do so. To make matters worse they missed out on acquiring Kevin Love in a trade and likely will not be able to make a run at him in free agency considering ESPN is reporting he is guaranteeing to re-sign with the Cavaliers in 2015. That could push Rondo out the door fast.

The point guard is being smart and not saying what his mindset is. He has the leverage of his future. When Love announced his desire to test the market, the trade rumors began and eventually came true. Rondo will play and likely finish the season with the Celtics despite all of the interest and then he will determine his future going forward.
