Cleveland Cavaliers Free Agent Rumors: Shawn Marion and Ray Allen Targets For LeBron James With Kevin Love Trade

Aug 19, 2014 09:34 AM EDT

The Cleveland Cavaliers are putting together quite the roster for their team after adding LeBron James and now they are looking to add Shawn Marion and potentially Ray Allen and this comes as the Kevin Love trade is still set to go down and that should be happening next week and that gives the Cavs a strong core with LeBron, Kyrie Irving and Love.

Marion was being pursued by the Indiana Pacers and the Miami Heat were going after Ray Allen, but it looks like both those players could end up in Cleveland. According to ESPN.com, the Cavaliers and Marion have agreed on a deal and he now will join for the veterans minimum. The report says that Marion also met with the Pacers face to face and opted to sign with Cleveland since it was the best chance to win a championship.

ESPN.com is reporting that Allen is coming back this season and is not retiring, but that he has not decided on what team yet. Allen has been with Miami and won a championship there and now he could join LeBron in Cleveland to help win one there as well. Allen would be a nice piece and he was a strong part of the teams in Miami with James. The Cavs have continued to add veterans to their mix of young players and now they have Marion in along with James Jones and Mike Miller.

The Pacers previously lost Paul George and that was one reason they went after Marion so hard and now the Cavs look like they have him. Marion was not asking for crazy money and will play for the minimum and he comes in after having some solid years in Dallas. Marion is 36, but he still is a productive player and he averaged over 10 points and had six rebounds per game last season and that could be big for Cleveland. The team is trading Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett for Kevin Love and now they get the chance to add another solid option off the bench.

The Cavaliers trajectory now is off the charts and this comes after the team was just terrible last season. James pushed for the Love trade and now Cleveland has beaten out teams like the Golden State Warriors and Chicago Bulls to get it done. The Wolves are happy to get Wiggins in the deal for Love, as they knew that he would be leaving in free agency anyway once he was able to hit the market. The team felt they had to trade Love and the Cavs deal was the best package with the most potential.

The Cavaliers are now the favorites in the east and they also could be the overall favorites for the championship. The team has the chance to do some damage in the east with Love and his trade tips the scales big time and now Cleveland could be getting their first championship in decades. The Cavs have the chance to do it and LeBron came home to bring a championship to the city.
