The St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds are playing live on the MLB schedule and the NL Central division matchup is streaming online and starts up past 8:15 pm ET and has both teams in playoff contention as the year winds down and the pitching matchup has Alfredo Simon against John Lackey and both teams need this win.
The Reds and Simon have slumped in the second half and now they are teetering on not even being in the wild card race, while the Cards have played themselves into one of the two spots. The Cardinals are still alive for the division, but the Reds are now looking to be far out of it and probably can't make it back after the way they have played.
The Reds are now a losing team and they have to get things back on the right side to even have a chance of getting into the playoffs. Lackey has been up and down since his trade to the Cardinals from the Red Sox and now the team is hoping that he can pitch well after his last start was a solid one. Lackey is a player with plenty of experience and he will be big for the team as they try and get things going heading towards the playoffs.
The NL wild card and central race is going to be tight and teams like the Pirates, Atlanta Braves and the Giants are all gunning for those spots. The Cardinals come into the game after winning over the Reds in exciting fashion and they will play another game on Wed and that has Johnny Cueto and Lance Lynn against each other and that should be another good matchup.
The team comes into the game ranked 29th in the league in runs and they have been terrible on offense and they are 25th in slugging this season. The pitching has been solid and they are 15th in Era and 10th in batting average against and now the Cards will try and keep things going after winning against the Reds on Monday.
