Knowshon Moreno's tenure with the Miami Dolphins did not exactly get off a smooth start, but the running back stresses it is all about the finish. Coming off a career-high season with the Denver Broncos, Moreno was only able to muster up a one-year contract with Miami. He was the presumed starter entering offseason workouts until he showed up out of shape and then promptly needed knee surgery. However, he is back on the field and claiming he is ready to go.
Moreno promises that his weight is down from spring practice and his knee is healthy after undergoing a scope in June that prolonged his debut with the Dolphins. As a result, Lamar Miller began to impress the coaching staff and the first depth chart placed him as the starter over Moreno and Daniel Thomas. However, Moreno expects that to change after a successful start in practice.
According to the Miami Herald, Wednesday was the best Moreno has looked since returning from knee surgery in June. He scored on a 15-yard run and told media after that he "feels good" and is excited to hopefully play in the preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday. Moreno says that his conditioning is fine and his weight is at exactly where he plans on playing at.
Fantasy owners should really beware of drafting Moreno. Despite being the star of the Denver Broncos in 2013, the Dolphins are much different team. Currently in the midst of offensive line issues, Moreno is going to have to work a lot harder to get similar numbers to last season. Even Miller who is getting praised by the coaching staff is going to be a tough call in fantasy. It is likely that any Miami running back will be frustrating all season long.
The Dolphins added playmakers to their wide receiving corps this offseason which could take some emphasis off the ground game. Head coach Joe Philbin intends to keep the offense 50-50 in terms of passing and running, but with receivers like Mike Wallace and rookie Jarvis Landry on the field, the temptation to throw will be pretty great.
