The NY Yankees and Houston Astros are playing live on the MLB schedule on Thursday to end their series in NY and the afternoon game starts at 1:05 pm ET and the game is live streaming online and on radio from Yankee Stadium as the Yanks try and stay in the wild card race and they have Brandon McCarthy on the mound.
The Yankees come into the game after losing the last two against the Astros and that has been tough, as they are one of the worst teams in the league. The Yankees can't hit for anything and their offense has simply been horrible this season. The team is trailing the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers for the second playoff spot and right now they are about four games out and can't really afford to slip much farther than that. The team as hung in there despite a high amount of injuries, but they have been madly inconsistent on offense and that is one reason why they are trailing in the standings.
The Yankees are just two games over .500 and that will not get it done in the AL this year to make the playoffs and McCarthy is a perfect example of what the team has been dealing with. He has been very solid since coming over in a trade and he has come in for CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka, but losing all those arms has started to take a toll and the Yankees now have to find a way to turn it around soon. The season is moving fast to the conclusion and they have a chance to stay alive, but they need a win here badly.
The team blew a game on Tuesday and they lost on Wednesday despite having chances with runners in scoring position and now they are trying to get the win. Shane Greene will start the next game and that is on Friday at home and they are looking to win that series as well if they can bounce back. The team has been ranked 24th in the league in runs and they are in the bottom half in on base percentage and slugging as well as batting average this season.
The pitching has been up and down and that has been due to injuries and now the team really needs some players to step up. The team stupidly let Robinson Cano go and now he is an MVP candidate in Seattle and he has shown how valuable he is by putting his team right in the playoff mix. Yankees fans won't admit it, but they are jealous right now of Cano and the way the M's are playing and they will not admit they wish they had Cano, but any true Yankee fan wishes they did.
The Yankees have to find a way to win this game and it will be crucial to stay in the playoff race. The team can make up some ground on the M's and Tigers, as the Mariners are playing Friday and are off Thursday, while Detroit is playing against the Rays this afternoon.
