Wimbledon 2012: Andy Murray in Finals Means Profits for Everybody

Jul 06, 2012 10:25 AM EDT

I am no mathematician or account, as you can tell, but Andy Murray's success could help Wimbledon profit to the max.

Think about it.

Great Britain is riding on the back of this tennis player. Murray, who is Scottish, can win in front of his home crowd.

That is not all.

He can be the first Brit to make it to the Wimbledon Finals since 1938 and the first to win it since 1936.

Everybody is proud of Murray for making it this far, but word has it that if Murray simply makes it to the Finals, Wimbledon will see a large chunk of change. With limited seating, people want to witness this historical moment.

During Wednesday's dramatic victory, the announcers on ESPN mentioned that, were Murray to reach the Finals, seats in Centre Court could go for as much as 25,000 Euro. That translates into over $35,000. That makes Yankees Stadium and football ticket prices look fan friendly.

Murray is searching for his first Grand Slam title.

He has been active in Grand Slam tournaments since the age of 18. In his 8-year career he has yet to capture a championship.

He came close in 2008 when he the runner up at the U.S. Open. Murray was the runner up again on back-to-back occasions in 2010 and 2011 at the Australian Open.

Aside from making Wimbledon rich, Murray would get a hefty chunk of change for being a champion.

In the end it's a win-win-win situation for Wimbledon, Murray's pockets and for the nation of England.
