The Oakland Raiders simply cannot escape quarterback drama. The team has been trying to find some offensive consistency for the past few years and despite any moves they make, the struggles continue. Through two preseason games, the defense has appeared solid while the quarterback and wide receiver play struggles. Playing against the Green Bay Packers will certainly be another solid test as Dennis Allen and company work to finalize the roster.
The Oakland Raiders claim they are committed to Matt Schaub as their starting quarterback, but he has yet to instill confidence in the fanbase through two preseason game. Schaub has turned the ball over, gotten sacked and failed to show chemistry with his wide receivers. The issue is that Derek Carr and Matt McGloin look the same. Carr suffered a concussion in the Raiders' last game so he will not be active against the Packers, but Schaub will be starting determined to start getting some consistency on offense.
The wide receivers will be tested for Oakland. The team lacks a true No. 1 guy, a luxury Schaub had in Houston. Andre Holmes, Rod Streater and Denarius Moore are working for roster spots and the chance to be the top deep threat. As they compete, the ground game is trying to establish a star as well. Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew are hoping for career bouncebacks this season and are aiming to impress the coaching staff after signing short-term deals.
The secondary of Oakland will be challenged against Aaron Rodgers and the wide receivers of the Packers. The Raiders have a young secondary unit anchored by veterans Charles Woodson and Tyvon Branch. One player not expected to be on the field is former first-round draft pick, DJ Hayden. The cornerback is expected to land on the PUP list after hurting his foot. Hayden is close to having the term "bust" being placed before his name.
The Packers appear to be functioning on all cylinders through two preseason games. Eddie Lacy is looking more dominant than ever and Green Bay has high expectations for the running back in his sophomore season. Rodgers is looking to regain MVP form as the Packers are expected to be Super Bowl contenders once again.
