The New York Giants and NY Jets are playing live on the NFL preseason schedule in Week 3 and the game from MetLife Stadium has the Jets hosting the G-Men in the Snoopy Bowl and things start up at 7:30 pm ET as Eli Manning and Victor Cruz try and get the offense right after looking up and down despite three wins in the last three exhibition games.
The Giants are coming into the season with high expectations and they have a number of new players on both sides of the ball. The team signed a ton of free agents and they also have a new offense coming in with Ben McAdoo taking over after the terrible performance last year. Eli Manning has to find a way to get better after tossing 27 picks and the team has a new RB in Rashad Jennings as well as rookie Andre Williams.
The injury and retirement of David Wilson is a tough thing to swallow and the team now is hoping that Williams can step up and take over for him. The team added Odell Beckham in the draft and he could be a great addition to Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle for Eli Manning. The Giants were one of the worst rushing teams in the league last season and now they are trying to get better at that, as they added new players and also redid the offensive line after how horrible they were last season.
The Jets take this game like super seriously since they have no Super Bowl titles since the Joe Namath era, so they feel like they have to beat the Giants to win a preseason game, at least Rex Ryan does, no matter how stupid that logic is. Ryan actually sacrificed his likely starting quarterback last year with Mark Sanchez getting injured in the Snoopy Bowl, so the Giants ought to watch out, as Ryan will be playing his team like this is a regular season game, again, no matter how stupid that logic is.
The Giants added Jennings and a number of other free agents and this now is a huge year for the team, as they have missed the playoffs since winning the Super Bowl. Tom Coughlin could have his job on the line and the future of Eli Manning in the NFL may depend on how this season goes. Eli is not his brother, but he is better than what he did last season and the new additions on offense should help with that.
The defense should be improved and while the team is 3-0 in the preseason, things have not looked all that great. Eli has just 15 pass attempts this preseason and part of that is trying to keep him healthy. Eli had ankle surgery in the offseason and while he is fine now, the team needs him solid through the season no matter what. The Giants have a tough schedule and some games include a road matchup with the Seattle Seahawks as well as a home game with the 49ers. The team also has three divisional games in four weeks on the road to end the first half of the season and that makes those games very important.
