Aug 24, 2014 10:44 AM EDT

Manchester United and Sunderland are playing live on the Barclays English Premier League schedule on Sunday and the match from the Stadium of Light starts at 11 am ET and is live on TV from the NBC Sports Network and online live from the NBCSN Live Extra as Wayne Rooney and Louis Van Gaal try for the first win for the Red Devils this year in EPL play.

Man United opened with a loss in their first match at 2-1 and the team is playing after Tottenham won at 4-0 against Queens Park Rangers, while Hull City and Stoke City played to a 1-1 draw. The rest of the schedule has the game of the week on Monday and that has Manchester City and Liverpool playing at Etihad Stadium.

The Premier League table has Chelsea on top with six points along with Swansea City, while Arsenal and Aston Villa are next in the standings with Manchester City. It's obviously still early on in the season, but getting off to a good start can be a huge boost and Manchester United wants to get things going after the way things played out last season. These two teams will play again in February at Old Trafford and team now has Robin van Persie back in action for this matchup and it comes after he played in the World Cup for his new manager while playing with the Netherlands.

Next week has some great matchups with Tottenham hosting Liverpool at White Hart Lane, while Man United is the early match against Burnley. Last season Manchester United had a rough year and ended up in seventh in the Premier League standings and the way the team played resulted in the removal of David Moyes as head coach. The team made a number of moves in the summer and they are expecting big things in the EPL this year and after losing their opening match they want to get this one.

The schedule next week in the English Premier League schedule has a number of solid matchups and in this game today Sunderland has Billy Jones and Santiago Vergini coming back and they are looking for points here. Manchester United fell to Swansea City last weekend at Old Trafford and they will be looking to get over that next week and they also want to get some points now. The top of the EPL table has already started to take shape and another down performance could be worrying as the team tries to build off of their strong preseason.
