The New York Yankees enjoyed topping one of the leauge's aces on Wednesday when they handed David Price one of his worst games this season. The bats unloaded against the former Cy Young winner as the Yankees move into second place behind the Detroit Tigers and sit 2 ½ games back from Seattle in the wild card race. Now preparing to face a rookie in his second big league start, can New York get the hits once again?
Price was hit for nine straight hits, 12 overall, and eight runs. Price lasted just over two innings. It was the second shortest outing of his career. Jacoby Ellsbury led the charge going 2 for 4 and bettering his average to .486 in ths last nine games. He has been 8 for 13 with six RBIs while hitting in the lead off spot. New York has found their offense as they have scored seven or more runs in their last three of four games, winning six of seven overall. It puts them in a stronger spot to make the postseason.
Now the Yankees will try and repeat the performance against Kyle Lobstein who has 0-0 with a 4.76 ERA after one start. He was drafted back in 2008 and made his debut Saturday, going five innings while giving up three runs and four hits. He was called up from Triple-A and now must start against the Yankees who have found late season momentum. Rookie pitchers are 6-8 in 18 starts against New York this year.
The Yankees will start Kiroki Kuroda who is 9-8 with a 3.94 ERA this season. He is coming off back-to-back wins for the first time since July. He is coming off a six-strikeout performance against Chicago. In his last start against Detroit. Kuroda did not record a decision and allowed three runs in seven innings. The Tigers are the only team he has not beaten in his career.
