The NBA offseason is moving towards September and as the season gets closer to starting, trade rumors from the summer will likely come up again and names like Josh Smith, Greg Monroe, Roy Hibbert, LaMarcus Aldridge, Steve Nash, Omer Asik and Rajon Rondo could be some of the main names to come up this year at the deadline.
According to ESPN.com, the Pistons looked at a Josh Smith trade this offseason with the Kings and while that didn't work out, the teams could look at that during the season. Greg Monroe has been mentioned in trade talks after he has not been able to come to an agreement with the Pistons and now there is a chance that he could end up signing a one year deal and become a free agent next summer, meaning he could be a rental trade this year.
The Lakers may try and trade Steve Nash since his contract is expiring and some team may want him, while Rajon Rondo is heading towards free agency and could be a target for teams. Rondo has long been coveted by the Rockets and the Kings also came up as a potential destination for him. Roy Hibbert has also come up a great deal with the Pacers and he has been mentioned in two different deals, one potentially for Monroe with the Pistons and also with Goran Dragic and the Suns.
Aldridge has been offered an extension from the Blazers but he has rejected signing anything until he hits free agency and that is the smartest move by him, as he is set to cash in after next season. Aldridge has quietly been carving out a spot for himself as one of the best young players in the NBA up in Portland and after the season he had this past year, he should end up being one of the highest paid as well.
Aldridge had back to back 40 point games in the playoffs against the Rockets in the first round and he also factored into the MVP voting for the first time in his career. The Blazers won a playoff series for the first time in his years and he was a main reason for that and now the team could have a tough decision to make, as Aldridge is going to be getting a ton of money once he hits free agency and the team also has to keep in mind that they have to sign Damian Lillard to a deal in the future and he could be a superstar by the time that happens.
There are some other names out there that could be traded as well. The NBA trade rumor mill was centered around Kevin Love, but now names like LaMarcus Aldridge, Kenneth Faried, Greg Monroe, Josh Smith, Jeff Green, Thaddeus Young, Dion Waiters and Klay Thompson could come up towards the end of the summer or during the season and those are just some names that could be traded at the deadline in 2014-15. The Cavaliers pulled off the Kevin Love deal and now Anthony Bennett, Andrew Wiggins and Thaddeus Young are all on the Wolves. Young had been looked at as a target for the Minnesota Timberwolves to replace Love.
