If the buzz around the internet is to be believed, Barcelona are lining up a swap move for Robin Van Persie with David Villa and extra cash going to Arsenal.
Twitter is abuzz with excitement after several quarters suggested that Barcelona are considering offering Villa to the North London club with a further £13 million ($20 million) for Robin Van Persie.
The Arsenal captain recently revealed his decision not to sign a contract on his official website, immediately forcing Arsenal's hand to sell the striker this summer.
Manchester City and Manchester United along with Italian champions Juventus were understood to be the frontrunners for the 28-year-old's signature. However, the rage in Twitter and reports in Spain suggest Barcelona have entered the race.
Sport.es says Barca are trying to offload Villa to pave the way for Van Persie and are even ready to offer their 30-year-old striker in part exchange.
Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of Villa's talents and even considered buying him before the Spanish striker, who was out for much of last season after suffering a serious injury, chose to join to Barcelona from Valencia.
It is understood, if such a proposal is made, Wenger and Arsenal will accept it without any fuss.
However, the likelihood of such a deal remains extremely slim and even if Barca are willing to let go of Villa, the price quoted will be much lesser than £13 million.
Another reported contender for RVP's signature, Paris St Germain said they have not made any contact with the striker, even though they are in the market for a forward.
"We have never talked with Van Persie," PSG chairman Nasser al-Khelaifi told l'Equipe.
"We trust our current forwards. But we are trying to find another one."
Meanwhile, former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell said he understands Van Persie's decision to leave the club.
"I can understand why Van Persie has decided not to sign a new contract," Campbell told the Daily Mirror.
"When you go back to your club for pre-season, and you look around the changing room, you want to see top players around you and think, 'Yeah, we're going to do something this season. This is where it's happening'.
"That's what van Persie is looking for. And maybe he's had a look and thought, 'Is this it?'
"Robin has seen the good times, and been part of the good times, and he wants more of it. Basically, his statement is shorthand for saying his patience has run out, and that he can't wait for ever if he's going to win major trophies in his career.
"From the outside, it looks as though he wants to go to a club who will start the season expecting to win things, not just to be in contention with a lot of ifs, buts, maybes and strings attached.
Campbell said Van Persie could still be persuaded to stay if Arsenal make a big statement in the transfer market.
"Maybe he could still sign a new contract if Arsenal rustle up £100m from somewhere and make a serious statement by signing three world-class players.
"But they lost (Cesc) Fabregas and (Samir) Nasri last summer, so we've been here before and I don't see how it's going to be any different this time.
"Arsenal have established this model of financial prudence, they have a fantastic new stadium, they are bringing the club's debt down ahead of schedule and everything is tickety-boo off the pitch.
"They are making money, they are in good shape and everything is well-run... but they are not winning. The real sting is in the punchline."
