Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders are playing on the Canadian Football League schedule on Monday and the CFL game starts up at 4:30 pm ET at McMahon Stadium in Alberta and the coverage is live from ESPN3 and streaming from the WatchESPN website online as the division leaders face off to see who is best in the west heading into September.
Mike Reilly has been having a good season, but he could be limited for this game for Edmonton and this comes after he was injured in the last game against Toronto. The Eskimos may have to rely more on Matt Nichols and he was part of the win last week after throwing for 178 yards in the game, but he also had two turnovers and one touchdown against the Argonauts. Reilly has been able to start 26 games in a row in the CFL and he said that he should be able to play on Monday
The two teams come in playing well this season and they have the same record, even the home and road splits, as they have gone 4-0 on the road and 3-1 at home and that means something will have to give. The teams already played once this season and Calgary won that game and now they will be at home and they still have another game head to head and that will be later in September and that means this matchup holds even more importance.
The two teams are tied atop the division with Saskatchewan and they all have 14 points and the Roughriders have won six in a row, while Calgary and Edmonton have each won three games in a row. Calgary and Edmonton have the best defensive units in the league and they allowed the least amount of points and their offenses have been playing well and that should be a major factor. The east has been struggling this season and Toronto is leading with a 3-16 record.
This is a matchup between two leading teams and this could be one of the best matchups heading into the second stretch of the season and once the weather gets colder, the standings will really start taking shape. Toronto is leading Montreal in the east, while Winnipeg and BC are bringing things up in the bottom of the west.
