The Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics are playing live for an AL West and wild card series matchup from O.co Coliseum this afternoon and the matchup has Felix Hernandez and Jon Lester on the mounds past 3:35 pm ET and this game is massive for both teams after the M's won over the A's last night to break out of a funk.
The Mariners come into the game just 1.5 games out of the second wild card spot and they are starting to chase alone, as the Yanks and Indians have been losing and now they are five games out. The team has been pitching well, but lately not so much and while they got a string start from James Paxton, the team needs their King in Felix to be the man, as he had a rough start the last couple times out.
Felix comes in as the favorite for the Cy Young and Lester has been very good as well and now as the stretch run goes down, the Mariners need him and Robinson Cano playing to their talents. Felix has the Cy Young all but locked up, he just needs to settle in over the final weeks and the hardware is likely his for the second time in his career.
The Mariners have their best record in years and they are looking to stay tight here and Felix comes in pitching well against Oakland. Over his last run Felix is 5-1 over the last seven with a 1.97 Era and that is what the Mariners need him to be. The Lester matchup with Hernandez is the best of the day and both sides are in a playoff race and with just less than 30 days to go in the season and one day off the rest of the way for the Mariners, they need this win.
