The Kansas City Royals and NY Yankees are playing live on the MLB schedule on Friday night and the matchup from Yankee Stadium is a big one and starts up at 7:05 pm ET as the Yanks try and stay in the playoff race after a walk off win against the Red Sox and that could be enough to get the horrible offense for the team going as James Shields and Michael Pineda take the mound.
The Yankees need this win badly, as they have not been able to gain any ground in the wild card race despite their winning last night and the team is very close to fading out altogether. The team has been killed by injuries and they have had Martin Prado and Carlos Beltran out of the lineup recently and Pineda is returning after dealing with injuries as well and now it looks like Masahiro Tanaka is done for the year.
The team has about 25 games left and they cannot afford to lose many more if they want to stay in the playoff hunt. The Tigers are the ones in the second wild card spot and the Yanks are also chasing their old pal Robinson Cano and the Seattle Mariners, who have been much more consistent than the Yankees. The team got a big home run from Chase Headley in the game against the red Sox and now they have to deal with a Royals team that is a division leader.
Kansas City has stormed past the Tigers for the AL Central lead and they have a very tough team and Shields is a tough pitching matchup. The Yankees beat him last week, but now he has another chance at the team as they start the series on Friday.
