MLB All Star Game 2012: Starting Lineup for NL and AL Teams

Jul 09, 2012 12:16 PM EDT

Stars will collide in Kauffman Stadium, home of the Royals, on Tuesday night.

For the home team, the American League will have a lineup filled with Texas Rangers and New York Yankees.

It comes as no surprise since the Rangers are the back-to-back AL Champions and the Yankees are the most popular baseball team in the world.

The AL lineup looks like this: C Mike Napoli, 1B Prince Fielder, 2B Robinson Cano, SS Derek Jeter, OF Josh Hamilton, Curtis Granderson and Jose Bautista, DH David "Big Papi" Ortiz.

Batting lineup is as follows:

#

1

Derek Jeter

2

Robinson Cano

3

Josh Hamilton

4

Jose Bautista

5

Prince Fielder

6

Adrian Beltre

7

David Ortiz

8

9

Justin Verlander will take the mound after being named the starter of the AL stars.

In the National League, Tony LaRussa will manage: C Buster Posey, 1B Joey Votto, 2B Dan Uggla, SS Rafael Furcal, 3B Pablo Sandoval, OF Matt Kemp, Melky Cabrera and Carlos Beltran, DH Carlos Gonzalez.

This is what the batting lineup looks like: (WARNING: LaRussa has his fingerprints all over this one)

R.A. Dickey was a possible choice at starter, but LaRussa decided to go with perfect game thrower, Matt Cain.

A definite snub at the starting position was New York Mets' third baseman David Wright. He owns better numbers than Pablo Sandoval.

Wright has hit 11 homers and driven in 59 runs. All while hitting .351. Sandoval only has 8 home runs, 30 runs batted in and is hitting .307. The numbers are not bad, but they look miniscule in front of Wright's production.

The 2012 All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday a little after 8 p.m. EDT.
