Sep 10, 2014 11:22 PM EDT

The MLB playoff standings for 2014 in the AL and NL races are very tight and the wild card is coming down to the wire along with some division races, as teams like the Baltimore Orioles, LA Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland A's, Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Washington National, Los Angeles Angels and Pittsburgh Pirates as the postseason gets closer.

The AL East has the Baltimore Orioles locking up that spot and they are clearly the winners already halfway through September with a double digit lead over the Yankees and Blue Jays. The AL Central has the Tigers and Royals battling it out and they are five up on the Indians. The LA Angels are eight up in the west and the A's have slumped and are in ahead of the Mariners.

The National League has the Washington Nationals leading the east, while the Cardinals are now up a few games on the Pirates after the freefall of the Brewers. The Dodgers are leading the Giants and San Francisco is one of the wild card teams chasing the postseason. The NL has the Pirates and Giants leading, while the Braves, Brewers and Marlins are within striking distance.

The American League wild card is very close and has the Detroit Tigers in the second spot with the Oakland A's in first. The Mariners are right in the mix and they are leading the Toronto Blue Jays, while the Yankees and Indians are five games back.
