Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton was hit in the face by a pitch on Thursday night from Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers in the fifth inning of their game in Florida and he was taken off the field in a stretcher after being hit with the pitch and he immediately went down after being struck with the ball and soon after that a brawl broke out.
According to ESPN.com, Stanton was hit in the face with a fastball going just under 99 mph and Stanton was ruled to have swung on the pitch and he was taken off the field on a stretcher by trainers. Stanton had his father at the game and he went with him off the field and Stanton was taken off with a backboard and stretcher before being placed in an ambulance.
The next pitch hit Johnson and adding insult to more injury, the pitch was also called a strike and he was called out to end the inning and that's when the fun started. Johnson at first thought he was getting first base, but the home plate umpire called him out and as that was going on the bench started yelling at Fiers and Redmond was ejected along with Casey McGahee and Fiers was heated and so were both teams.
The Marlins had Reed Johnson pinch hit for Stanton and he was hit in the hand with the next pitch and that cause the club to get off the bench and that resulted in Mike Redmond getting ejected from the game. Stanton is having a career season with 37 home runs and 105 RBIs to lead the National League and he has helped the Marlins stay in contention for the wild care even though they have slipped in a standings a bit. Stanton went down right after being hit and the scary injury could knock him out for a bit of time and the season is already very close to being over.
