The Miami Dolphins came into Week 2 riding after beating the New England Patriots in the opening week of the NFL season. However, things went south against the Buffalo Bills as the Dolphins struggled to get anything going on offense. Injuries only hurt the effort more as Knowshon Moreno went down with a dislocated elbow, leaving his Week 3 status up in the air.
Moreno was coming off a week where he put up 134 yards against the New England Patriots. He was the league's leading rusher after Week 1. However, his follow-up performance did not pan out as he suffered a dislocated elbow against the Bills. Moreno exited the game in the first quarter after getting tackled on a short run. The hit bent his elbow backwards. Now, Moreno's status for Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs is uncertain.
According to NFL.com, the Dolphins have an MRI scheduled for Moreno which will determine a lot. It is unknown the exact severity of the damage done to his elbow, but there is a chance that the running back could miss upwards of a month. That would leave him out for games against the Chiefs, Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers.
If Moreno is truly out, the Dolphins are in trouble. During the preseason, Lamar Miller was the primary starter for Miami while Moreno healed up an injury. He exceled in the role causing many to believe that Miller would be the starter over the free agent signee in 2014. However, Miller also went down with an injury against the Buffalo Bills. The backup ran the ball on third down in the fourth quarter and remained on the ground after the tackle. It appeared to be a leg injury as the medical staff paid close attention to his lower right leg, but the severity of the issue is unknown.
Miller will start if he is healthy. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on this as the backup is certainly no slouch. However, if both are injured then undrafted free agent Damien Williams will take over the primary spot. That will force Ryan Tannehill to more throwing than passing, potentially opening up big fantasy weeks for Mike Wallace, Jarvis Landry and Brian Hartline.
