New York Mets News: Dillon Gee Hospitalized Due to Blood Clot in Shoulder

Jul 10, 2012 01:23 PM EDT

New York Mets' starting pitcher Dillon Gee was hospitalized for a blood cot on his right shoulder. He will spend the next day or two in the hospital getting an artery checked.

He was experiencing numbess on his right hand, which alerted the pitcher that something was wrong.

Gee went through extensive tests on Monday, which revealed the issue in the artery. He is currently at the New York Presbyterian Medical Center getting the clot dissolved.

Manager Terry Collins said the starting pitcher will be placed on the disabled list. He was scheduled to start against the Atlanta Braves on Friday after the All-Star break.

Gee, though not sporting excellent numbers, is an integral part of the New York Mets pitching staff.

So far this season, Gee has started 17 games and posted a 6-7 record with a 4.10 earned runs average. He has 97 strikeouts in just over 109.2 innings pitched.

Do not let the 6-7 record fool you. Had the Mets scored runs for the righty his record would have told a different story.

Gee has 12 quality starts of the 17 games he has pitched this season.

In the month of June, Gee four of his five starts were of quality and he went 1-3 in that month with a no-decision against the St. Louis Cardinals.

In his last start he dominated the Chicago Cubs. Gee gave up 1 earned run over 8 innings pitched. He struck out four, walked none and gave up seven hits.

Last season, the 26-year-old right hander threw 160 innings finishing up with a 13-6 record.
