ESPYs 2012: Miami Heat Fans Can Vote for "Best Team of the Year"

Jul 10, 2012 02:13 PM EDT

The Miami Heat can help their NBA Champions finish with the "Best Team of the Year" Award in Wednesday's ESPYs.

ESPN will be celebrating their 20th ESPYs where they rewind the sports year and award the best of the best.

During the award show, fans will have the opportunity of voting for the Heat as the best team. The voting polls will close at the end of the ceremony.

The Heat will compete against Baylor women's basketball, Alabama football, Kentucky Wildcats, the Los Angeles Kings, New York Giants and St. Louis Cardinals.

At the end of the show the winner will be revealed. Fans could vote on twitter by adding their chose to the hash tag #BestTeam.

For the Miami Heat this was their first championship since 2006 and the second in franchise history.

What makes this championship more special is that the Heat were able to help LeBron James capture the ring that has evaded his NBA career.

However, they are not the most captivating story in regards to professional championship teams.

The Los Angeles Kings won their first Stanley Cup. The New York Giants made a dramatic comeback similar to their 2007 run. They knocked out the best teams in the NFL to capture their second Super Bowl in 5 seasons.

The St. Louis Cardinals made the playoffs on the last day in "Game 162" and were able to sneak by the Atlanta Braves. Once in the postseason, they beat Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies and their division rival Milwaukee Brewers to get into the World Series.

They went to a dramatic Game 7 where they defeated the Texas Rangers to claim the title.

If Miami fans want their team to win, they better show up at the polls.
