Miami Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno had to leave the game on Sunday in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills with an elbow injury and it came on his first carry of the game and now moving forward into week 3 and beyond, fantasy football owners should look at Lamar Miller and Damien Williams as potential replacements, as he will be out for at least a month and could miss up to eight games moving forward.
Moreno had been off to a solid start this season, but now he will be out for a while and could miss one to two months and that makes Miller and Williams the best pickups for Moreno owners. Miller is the better option since he will start and while Williams may get some carries, the team also looked at LaMichael James on the free agent market and he could be an option. Miller has 105 yards this season along with six catches for 26 yards and while he is dealing with an ankle issue, it's not considered serious.
Williams has just five carries for 19 yards this season, but those numbers surely will go up with Moreno out of the mix for a while. Moreno had career best numbers last season and the Dolphins have been trying hard to run the ball after being one of the worst teams last season in rushing yards per game with Miller and Daniel Thomas.
Moreno came into the season as one of the best free agent signings at running back and now he could be out for an extended period of time after suffering his injury. According to Pro Football Talk, Moreno suffered a dislocated elbow early in the game against the Buffalo Bills, finishing with one carry for four yards in the matchup and leaving during the season series for the Dolphins. At the time the score was 3-0 for the Bills and they ended up winning the game to improve to 2-0 on the season for the first time in three years.
Pro Football Talk reports that Moreno will miss between four and eight weeks with the injury and now Miller will stay at the number one position, while Williams will be the backup ahead of Orleans Darkwa. Moreno came into the game after going for 134 yards in his first week with the Dolphins on 24 carries and he also scored a touchdown. Now Moreno will be out for up to half the season and he had previously come in after a career year, rushing for 1039 yards last season while making 60 catches for 548 yards.
Miller dealt with an ankle injury in the win over the Bills, but he said after the game that it was not a serious injury and that he could have returned to the game after leaving. Miller had 16 carries in the game for 53 yards and he previously had 11 carries for 59 yards in the first game of the season along with four catches for 19 yards and touchdown. Williams ended up with five carries for 19 yards against the Bills and while that's not much, he should be elevated in the coming weeks with Moreno out since the Dolphins have wanted to focus on rushing the ball this season.
