Liverpool and Middlesbrough are playing live on the Capital One Cup schedule on Tuesday and the match is live from Anfield and the game begins for the Reds at 2:45 pm ET as the third round goes down in the English tournament for the Football League Cup and Brendan Rodgers has his team ready after falling over the weekend on the Premier League schedule.
Liverpool is currently at 11th on the Premier League table and this comes after the team finished second behind Manchester City last season. Liverpool lost league leading scorer Luis Suarez to Barcelona and they have Mario Balotelli in the fold and they are looking to get things going ahead of their next Premier League matchup. The team has a decent schedule coming up with Everton, West Brom and QPR before playing against Hull City and they also have a match against West Brom. Chelsea comes after that stretch and that will be the next major test for the team.
Liverpool comes in after winning over Southampton to start the season and after that they lost to Manchester City before winning over Tottenham. The team also lost to Aston Villa before losing to West Ham and now they are trying to turn things around heading into the schedule next week. Chelsea is leading the Premier League table over Southampton and Aston Villa, while Arsenal, Swansea City and Man City are next and Liverpool is hanging in the middle with Manchester United and Everton.
The League Cup is a trophy both sides would like to win and now things are into the next round and Manchester City comes into this tournament as the holders of the Cup. The fifth round will take place next month and then after that will be the semifinals and later next year in March the finals will be held for the Cup and that will be an anticipated matchup. The Reds lost to West Ham on Saturday and now they are looking to get in better form heading into the Premier League weekend schedule against Everton.
Rickie Lambert is expecting to get his first start with Liverpool after coming in as a sub in four games and that should be a boost for the young starting lineup on Tuesday. Middlesbrough has won over Liverpool in the past in this, but not in over a decade and now the Reds are trying to bounce back after losing their third match in the EPL in four games. The team has been past the third round in all but three of the last 12 seasons and Liverpool is looking to lock that in and they have previously won the Cup eight times, which is a record.
