The Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees are playing game two of their series live on Tuesday from Yankee Stadium as Derek Jeter ends his NY career and the game starts up at 7 pm ET on ESPN and streaming from the WatchESPN website and has Brandon McCarthy against Ubaldo Jimenez on the mound in the pitching duel and this is the third to last game in the Bronx for Jeter with the Yanks and it looks like they will miss the playoffs for the second year in a row.
The Yankees have had their worst hitting month in many years and that has been indicative of how they have played all season and now they are limping to the finish. The team is coming into the game after a 5-0 win against the Orioles, but they have long odds to make the playoffs and now the Orioles have the division title and home field advantage in the AL division series. The team will finish with a better record than Detroit or KC and that means they will have the home matchups for the ALDS.
Many see the Orioles as World Series contenders and they have the chance to really get things going heading into the playoffs. The Yankees have been hit hard by injuries this season with CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka and while Tanaka has come back, the team will never know what might have been if they stayed healthy. It's a testament to the team and its manager that they are even in this position late and it comes with Derek Jeter as a two hitter all season and the hitting overall coming in at historic lows.
Jeter is playing well after a long slump and this is the perfect time, as he is finishing up his final home stand with the Yankees. The team finishes the season with three in Boston and those will be his final games. Jeter is hitting over .400 in his last six games and he belted his first homer at Yankee Stadium this season earlier in the week.
The Yankees come into the game looking to give Jeter a nice sendoff and he will get the chance to play in the rest of these games. Jeter is happy that he made it through the season without getting injured and the Yankees are too, as they would have lost a ton of money honoring Jeter. The SS deserves all the recognition and now he gets the chance to finish things out in the Bronx.
