Lionel Messi is Better Than Cristiano Ronaldo, Says Del Bosque

Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque said he admires Lionel Messi more than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi and Ronaldo are widely considered to be the best players in the world; however, a consensus on who the undisputed best player is, has never been reached.

While Ronaldo has starred for Real Madrid with goals galore, Messi has done the same with Barcelona. The former Manchester United superstar helped Real to their first La Liga title in four years last season, leading many to believe he deserves the best player honor.

Messi, however, scored an astounding amount of goals last campaign for Barca, breaking the European goal-scoring record in the process.

Asked about who he thinks is better, Del Bosque chose Messi, because of the Argentinian wonder's style of play.

"Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? I prefer Messi, because he's more of a street player," Del Bosque told Punto Pelota.

Messi and Ronaldo are again considered the favorites to win the Ballon d'Or for the player of the year. Ronaldo is believed to be slightly favored currently due to his impressive performances for Portugal in Euro 2012, where he led his country to the semi-finals, before going down to eventual champions Spain in a penalty shootout.

Del Bosque, however, said he does not consider the award to be important.

"I do not like the Ballon d'Or. It's a marketing tool. Our boys are good players and nice people.

"If they gave (the award for best coach) to me, I would accept it, though, because I don't want to upset FIFA."

Brazilian legend Ronaldo had also said he thought Messi was the better player a couple of days ago. "I am more a fan of Real Madrid," the former Real and Barcelona player told Marca. "But there is no doubt that Messi is the best player in the world."
