The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to one-year, $8 million deal with free-agent center Chris Kaman, according to sources close to the process.
The 7-foot center, who played on New Orleans last season, announced on his Twitter account Wednesday that he is going to Dallas to play with Dirk Nowitizki, his friend and teammate on the German national team during the 2008 Olympics.
"Partnering up with @swish41 and heading to the Mavs.......," Kaman tweeted. "I want to say thanks to the Hornet fans for all the support, even though our marriage was short one!!!
"I do love Texas guns laws tho! Pretty excited.....," Kaman added on Twitter.
Kaman averaged 13.1 points and 7.7 rebounds in 47 games with the Hornets last season. He played the first eight seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Clippers, and was an All-Star in 2010.
Kaman has been prone to injuries. He was limited to 32 games in 2010-11 because of problems with his back, left ankle and right knee. A strained arch in his left foot contributed to him playing only 31 games two seasons before that.
Kaman's deal gives the Mavs the opportunity to keep their 2013 summer options open for when Howard and Chris Paul are free agents.
The Mavericks have been scouring the league to make a free-agent score after their failed bid to sign All-Star guard Deron Williams.
