Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: Center Tells GM Hennigan He Does Not Want to Stay with Orlando Magic

Jul 12, 2012 12:42 PM EDT

A source close to Dwight Howard told ESPN that the center does not want to play with the Orlando Magic in 2013. After a conversation with general manager Rob Hennigan on Wednesday, Howard supposedly still wants out of Orlando.

Hennigan had hopes of changing Dwight's decision. Hennigan's case is that he did not have anything to do with the Magic's regime when Dwight first wanted the trade since he was recently named GM.

Howard did not budge and remained firm on wanting a trade.

Trade talks to Brooklyn died off Wednesday after the Nets signed their center, Brook Lopez to a 4-year, $60 million deal. Lopez was the centerpiece of the trade as he was the Nets' most marketable player at the time.

The Nets had offered four future first-round draft picks, Lopez, forward Kris Humphries and $3 million. The Magic did not like Humphries and they were trying to get rid of Quentin Richardson.

The Magic and Nets were then trying to involve a third team in the trade, but those takes failed as well.

The Nets became disillusioned with getting Howard, so they decided to ink Lopez.

Had they balked on talks with Lopez, the Charlotte Bobcats might have landed the center as they were making a run for him.

No,w Howard will have to see if other teams will reach an accord with the Magic.

The last thing the Magic want to deal with is a disgruntled Howard. He took a lot of attention away from the team  last season as trade talks commenced and ultimately, many believe he was responsible for the firing of coach Stan Van Gundy and former general manager Otis Smith.
