Team USA Basketball 2012: Los Angeles Clipper Blake Griffin Twists Knee in Scrimmage

Jul 12, 2012 02:10 PM EDT

According to ESPN, Los Angeles Clippers' superstar Blake Griffin twisted his knee during a scrimmage for Team USA as they prepare for the 2012 Olympics.

It is still unclear whether the knee injury is severe, but he is expected to get an MRI soon.

Griffin, who has experienced knee problems in the past, missed his first season as a pro.

During the second round of the playoffs against the San Antonio Spurs, Clippers fans watched and hope for the best as their forward went down after aggrevating his knee.

He was alright, but because of his history, it was a very tense moment.

As far as a replacement, the USA team might call upon big man and, No. 1 overall, pick Antony Davis to join the squad.

Due to a sprained ankle, Davis decided to play it safe and not participate in the 2012 Olympics. Now, with Griffin out, the US will probably have to count on a player fresh out of college who is inexperienced as far as international competition goes.

Though the injury posts matchup issues for the USA team as they have only two centers on the squad, the true potential losers in this case are the Clippers.

They just signed Griffin to a 5-year $95 million contract on Tuesday.
