The Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons are playing live on the NBA preseason schedule on Tuesday and the game is on NBATV starting up at 7:30 pm ET from The Palace of Auburn Hills as Derrick Rose and Pau Gasol continue their preseason against Greg Monroe and it comes after Joakim Noah got in a shoving match last game to open the exhibition slate with some intensity.
The Bulls come into the season with very high expectations after signing Pau Gasol and also because they are getting Derrick Rose back healthy. The team feels that they can challenge the Cavaliers in the eastern conference as long as Rose is healthy and even if he is not like he hasn't been the past two seasons, the Bulls still expect to be good. The team made the playoffs without Rose in the lineup the past two years and now they have the chance to get him back at full strength.
Rose played in the FIBA World Cup this summer and looked good and early on the Bulls will likely limit his minutes so he can get his strength back. The team comes in after a loss to the Wizards to open up the preseason and that saw Nikola Mirotic lead the team in scoring and it also saw Joakim Noah get into his first shoving match of the season. The team next plays the Bucks on the road and they are looking forward to getting the season started.
The Bulls ranked first in the league in point allowed per game last season and they were last in points scored and that is one of the main reasons why they went after Carmelo Anthony in the offseason. The team now has the chance to make a run and that will likely depend on the health of Rose. The Bulls can still be a talented team, but with so many good teams in the east this year, it will be tough for them to get deep without him. The window could be closing a bit for these Bulls and that may put some urgency on Rose and the roster to get things done.
The Bulls have as deep of a team as anyone and adding McDermott in the draft will be a big move for the team and they also signed Aaron Brooks along with Gasol. Rose is obviously the key and if he can stay healthy, there's no telling what the Bulls can accomplish. Noah is one of the best defensive players in the NBA and while the team lost Deng and Carlos Boozer, Gasol should really be able to help make up for their departures.
