The Stanford Cardinal and Washington State Cougars are playing live on the Pac-12 college football schedule on Friday and the game is on TV from ESPN at 9 pm ET and streaming on the WatchESPN website online as the number 25 team in the nation hosts WSU at Stanford Stadium as Kevin Hogan tries to rebound after Stanford lost to Notre Dame last week.
Stanford now has two losses on the season and they likely are out of the mix for the college football playoff and now they have to try and win out in the conference. The team won big to start the season over UC Davis, but they lost a close game to USC and now have lost another close game to a rival with the Notre Dame game last weekend. The team now has to bounce back against Washington State and after that they have a very tough matchup with the Arizona Sun Devils and that will be in Tempe, one of the toughest places to play in the nation.
The team won over Army and Washington in between those losses and now they have the toughest part of their schedule coming up. The team has a gauntlet to end the season and they have four ranked teams on the docket right now over the final six games of the season. The Cardinal play against the Sun Devils and then they have the Oregon State Beavers coming up after that and that is a home matchup.
The final stretch of the year is easily the toughest of the season for Stanford, as they have three of four games at the end on the road after playing OSU on the road and three of those are against ranked teams. The team has Oregon on the road in Autzen in Eugene for the next matchup after OSU and then they have Utah at home before playing Cal and ranked UCLA on the road. The team has a tough schedule and Kevin Hogan and company will have to be at their best to get it done. The defense has been fantastic this year, but the offense has not done nearly enough and while they are ranked number one in points allowed per game, the team is 91st in scoring by points per game this season.
Washington State comes into the game as one of the better offenses in the conference, but their defense has been a mess and that is what Stanford must attack. The team is coming in after a one point shootout loss against Cal that was 60-59 and now they face off against the top defense in the land. The team has Arizona and USC next on the schedule and those are very tough games. The Cougars end the season with two of three on the road, playing Oregon State and Arizona State before coming home to play the rivalry game with Washington.
The team is ranked first in passing yards per game and that is how they will try to attack the Stanford defense. This matchup kicks off the Pac-12 schedule and Stanford comes in at 1-1 in the conference and Washington State is 1-2 on the season in the conference.
