The Atlanta Falcons were not expecting to stat the season 2-4, but here the team is after losing to the Chicago Bears at home on Sunday. After going 4-12 last year in a season mauled by injuries to some of the team's top stars. However, 2014 is looking like much of the same as the offense and defense are missing key pieces to making the team successful. As a result, the Falcons have piled up three straight losses and job security is being put into question.
Head coach Mike Smith is aware things need to change. Atlanta once again fell in double digits to a team, but to make matters worse, it happened at home. The Falcons have not won a road game yet this year and their schedule will not get any easier as they take on Baltimore in Week 7. According to Smith, he is willing to put all the cards on the table to try and get a win this season while he says that no one is panicking just yet.
"We've played very inconsistently on defense throughout the entire season," Smith said, via Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com. "And we haven't played nearly up to our potential on the offensive side of the football, either. And I don't think anything is off the table in terms of what we've got to get done. These are the guys that we have on our football team. We have to coach them better; they have to play better. We're all in this together."
According to ESPN's McClure, a decision is looming in regards to the entire coaching staff of the Falcons as well as general manager Thomas Dimitroff. The Falcons are now two years removed from reaching the NFC Championship game. The issue is that since then, the Falcons have only won six games. In a business based off wins, that does not cut it. Quarterback Matt Ryan said the team's play was embarrassing. Roddy White stressed improvement. Levine Toilolo simply apologized.
Owner Arthur Blank told the media that he was not ready to make an immediate decision regarding the future of the front office. He told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that he did not foresee any midseason coaching changes. However, if the Falcons have not won a game before their bye week, the owner might be thinking something different.
