The Tour de France 2012 moves into the Pyrenees for Stage 14 as the riders face another hard day in the high mountains.
The 191 km stage from Limoux to Foix features three categorized climbs and long descent to a lengthy flat finish.
The first categorized climb at the start of the stage is the Category 2 Col du Portel which summits at 161 km to go. The peloton should see several attacks in order for the initial breakaway to form.
The riders will face some rolling terrain until the intermediate sprint points at approximately 92 km to go.
Immediately following the sprint, the start of the climb up the Category 1 Port de Lers begins. This very sharp climb reaches its summit at 64.5 km to go.
Following the descent of the Port de Lers, the peloton will immediately begin the climb up the more difficult Category 1 Mur de Peguere. The 10 km climb features 18 percent gradients and summits at 38.5 km to go.
This leaves a very long 38.5 km to the finish which includes a lengthy descent down the Mur de Peguere and 13 km flat to an inclined finish line in Foix.
This stage may see a long attack from Cadel Evans (BMC) on the Port de Lers to make up time lost to yellow-jersey holder Bradley Wiggins (Sky).
Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas) or Jurgen Van Den Broek (Lotto) may look to improve their positions by attacking on the sharp climb up the Mur Peguere. Wiggins is a tempo climber and may find it difficult to keep with a Nibali attack on a sharp climb.
Stage 14 is also a good stage for a breakaway winner like Thomas Voeckler (Europcar) or Alexander Vinokourov (Astana), who would like a win a stage in his last Tour.
