Oct 16, 2014 06:48 PM EDT

The Carolina Hurricanes and NY Rangers are playing live on the NHL schedule on Thursday night and the matchup from Madison Square Garden in New York is a big one for the Rangers and the game is on MSG and starts up at 7 pm ET as the team is looking to bounce back after three straight losses following a win by NYR to start the season with King Henrik Lundqvist.

The Rangers are coming in after losing three straight games and they are looking to get things back on track against the Canes. The team hosts this matchup at MSG and that is big for them and the team is dealing with a tough rebound, as they gave up six goals in their last game. The team lost to the cross island Islanders and that saw them give up four goals in the final period. The team is looking for a strong performance from the King and they will need it to breakout.

The team is just 1-3 on the season and this comes after the team made it to the Stanley Cup finals last year. The Rangers lost to the Kings and they made a great run through the east playoffs with an upset of the Penguins and a series win over the Canadiens and now they are trying to get back to their winning ways. Alain Vigneault is not a coach that will panic and the same thing played out last season. The Rangers got off to a very slow start and many felt the season was done, but they rebounded and now they will have to see if they can do it again.

The team comes in after the tough loss at home and now they have another home matchup before playing against the Sharks and that is on Sunday from MSG. The Sharks suffered a tough loss in the playoffs to the Kings and that is something both teams can relate to. Rick Nash is off to a fast start and he is leading the team with six goals and seven points and that is huge for the Rangers. The team has been waiting years for Nash to regain his All-Star form and it appears that he now is doing that.

Martin St. Louis has four assists already and he has been the catalyst for the Rangers and they need him to keep playing well. St. Louis now gets a full year in NY after his trade last season and he was one of the main reasons why the team was in the finals at all. The Rangers have not been off to a great start and that has been an issue for them over the past few years, but they used to be able to blame that on long road trips for MSG construction, which is done now.
