Chelsea Transfer News: Edinson Cavani To Open Talks Over Move to Chelsea

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani is looking to earn big bucks, if he makes a high-profile move to Chelsea.

According to the Daily Mail, Cavani's representatives will open talks with the European Champions this week, and will demand a salary of at least a £150,000 a week ($233,000), which will take him on par with the club's highest earners in Fernando Torres, Frank Lampard and John Terry.

Napoli are demanding £35 million ($54.5 million) for the Uruguayan striker as Chelsea look to bolster their frontline even further.

The Blues have already completed the signings of attacking midfielders Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and Kevin De Bruyne, while a deal for Oscar is understood to be imminent.

Roman Abramovich is keen to turn Chelsea into an attacking powerhouse, and head coach Roberto Di Matteo, believes the addition of Cavani will be the perfect tonic needed for Torres to perform at his best. Di Matteo is also looking at the possibility of bringing in Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao and Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain, if the Blue fail to reach an agreement with Napoli for Cavani.

The 25-year-old is seen as one of Europe's best strikers, and has also been linked with a move to Italian champions Juventus.

Highly-rated youngster Josh McEachran said he will talk to Di Matteo regarding his future. "I want to play as many games as I can for Chelsea this season," he told reporters. "I'm a Chelsea player and I want to play for Chelsea.

But if the manager wants to send me out on loan then that's up to him at the end of the day."

McEachran was sent out on loan to Swansea City last season, but failed to make an impact, making just two starts. "Last season was frustrating because the whole reason I went to Swansea was to play games," he said. "There are always setbacks -- it's about how you deal with them."

Meanwhile, Michael Essien is looking ahead to an injury-free campaign, after missing the early part of last season. "'It is hard during the season if you miss pre-season," he told the club's official website. "And so it is good to start and hopefully finish the whole pre-season.

"So I am looking forward to that and we will see what happens. So far so good and I am looking forward to the season.

"My summer was relaxing, nothing too busy. I was in France and Ghana."

Two of Essien's African team-mates Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou left the club after last season and Essien admitted he would miss their presence in the dressing room. "I will miss them but that is the game, it is part of our job and we have to deal with it. I wish them the very best of luck and we still keep in touch.

"It was a very good way for them to say goodbye to the club, playing the Champions League Final because we have been looking for that trophy for a long time."
