Over the weekend, Roberto Luongo might have given fans an idea of where exactly he is headed during the NHL offseason.
Kamran Saddiqui and the current Vancouver Canucks goalie where having a conversation, when Saddiqui mentioned he was from Miami and according to @NHLgossip this is how the conversation went:
"You played for my hometown team," said Siddiqui."
"Who's that?" asked Luongo.
"The Florida Panthers," answered Siddiqui.
"Oh yeah, I might be going back there," said Luongo, while smiling.
The keywords are "Might be."
The 33-year-old Luongo went 31-14-8 last season with 2.41 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.
In the playoffs, however, the goalie struggled and lost the starting job in the playoffs. Luongo went 0-2 with a 3.59 GAA and a .891 save percentage. Cory Schneider played the remainder of Vancouver's playoff games, and signed a three-year contract extension this summer worth $12 million.
The Canucks and Luongo have agreed that a trade is best for all concerned.
Luongo has been one of the hockey players everybody has been waiting to get moved, along with Rick Nash.
Luongo had also been rumored to have attracted interest from the Chicago Blackhawks. He has been a favorite target of Blackhawks fans in recent years, as the teams met in the playoffs for three consecutive seasons.
The Panthers have an advantage since Luongo lives in Florida during the summer. So without a doubt, going back to the team he got traded to back in 2000 would benefit the 33-year-old goalie.
