NBA Trade Rumors 2012: Antawn Jamison Has Chosen the Los Angeles Lakers Over His Hometown Charlotte

Antawn Jamison has chosen the Los Angeles Lakers over his hometown Charlotte Bobcats.

Jamison said he was torn between the chance to spend winters with his family versus signing with a contender.

Jamison is on vacation in Europe and is expected to sing with the Lakers once he returns to the United States later this week.

Jamison, 36, posted 17.2 points and 6.3 rebounds last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. A 14-year veteran, Jamison was a lottery pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, and his career has also included stops with the Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards.

The scoring punch Jamison gives will come in handy for the Lakers and his size will become a great insurance policy at power forward in case the Lakers can't re-sign Jordan Hill or if right-off Josh McRobert's expiring $3 million contract as part of a trade.

His high productivity would give Laker coach Mike Brown added comfort in featuring him as sixth man to help the Laker Big Three, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, when facing the double-team.

The Lakers also have interest in free agents Jermaine O'Neal and Grant Hill.

They plan to work out free agent big man Jermaine O'Neal in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears reports via Twitter.

Hill, who Nash has tried to convince to join him in L.A. But, according to The Times, Grant "appeared less likely to join the Lakers despite conversations with Kobe Bryant and Coach Mike Brown."
