The move to acquire Darren Sproles has proven itself productive for the Philadelphia Eagles. The hybrid players has been an asset in both the ground and passing game, helping bail out quarterback Nick Foles several times. So when the veteran went down with an apparent knee injury, there was certainly just call for concern. However, after taking time to heal in the bye week, Sproles looks ready to play.
Sproles was back on the practice field after suffering a sprained MCL in the game against the New York Giants. The Eagles feared the injury was much worse, but an MRI revealed the running back might only miss a game or two. However, he might not miss any playing time at all as the veteran feels healthy and ready to go against the Arizona Cardinals.
"I thought it was bad,'' Sproles said, via NJ.com. "I guess I got lucky. When I got the MRI done I felt better about it. We'll see how it goes. But I feel fine. The way I feel right now, I think I can play.''
Sproles is currently averaging 6.6 yards per carry on the ground while averaging 12.4 yards per catch. There was also that 82-yard punt return he had proving he can help on special teams as well. Sproles could be poised for a big game against the Cardinals as the Eagles get key offensive linemen back from injury. Evan Mathis has been cleared to practice after suffering an MCL sprain. However, he will not play until Week 10. Jason Kelce returned as well, but Chip Kelly plans for David Molk to be the starter.
Getting Sproles back is good for the Eagles, but getting LeSean McCoy back to his normal self is a bigger move for the team. The running back was plagued with a slow start to begin the year, but finally put everything together against the New York Giants when he rushed for 149 yards off 22 carries. McCoy expects that type of running to continue for the remainder of the season which should please plenty of fantasy owners.
"It felt good. It felt normal, just the small things that I haven't been doing lately," McCoy said, via 94 WIP.
The Eagles should be able to run the ball well against the Arizona Cardinals which could mean a big game for McCoy as well. McCoy remains confident that his solid game against the Giants will call for more rushing plays from Chip Kelly.
