The World Series 2014 matchup has the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals playing Game 1 of the series from Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday night on FOX for the TV coverage as KC hosts the first game of the Fall Classic at 8:00 pm ET with Madison Bumgarner and James Shields on the mound for the pitching duel.
The Royals come in as hot as can be, as they have not lost a game this postseason and have won eight games in a row after sweeping out the Baltimore Orioles. The Giants were the second wild card team in the National League and the Royals were the first wild card in the American League and that is why some have called this a "bad" World Series matchup based on the records, but not on the drama. The Kansas City Royals haven't been to the playoffs in 29 years, while the Giants have won two championships in the last five seasons.
The Giants come into the World Series after winning over the St. Louis Cardinals and they now are here once again after winning two championships in the past five seasons. The Giants have the experience and the Royals are the up and coming team and this would be the first championship for Kansas City since the 80s. The Giants won two years ago and also won in 2010 and there are still nine players left on the team from that first championship run. Madison Bumgarner was amazing in the wild card game and he won NLCS MVP and now he will be on the mound for the Giants.
The Giants won the series over the Cardinals in walk off fashion with a home run from Travis Ishikawa and that was his first career postseason home run. The team now takes that momentum against a team with tons of it and the Royals have tons of speed and likely will wreak some havoc on the base paths. The Royals did that to the Athletics and then the Angels and it helped them get past the Orioles as well.
The Giants were the second wild card team and the Royals were the first in the AL and now they face off in the World Series after the Angels and Nationals, the best teams in both leagues, lost to these teams. Buster Posey has been great for the Giants and he has been helping the pitching staff stay sharp and the Giants have lost just two games during this run and are pretty hot as well and clearly someone will have to lose on Tuesday night.
The Royals have a stacked bullpen and once they get to the seventh inning it is very hard to win against them. The team has made good on the trade with the Rays, as Shields and Wade Davis have been great. Davis has combined with Greg Holland for a great back end punch in the pen and they are looking to close things out in Game 1. The matchup starts past 8 pm ET with Joe Buck, Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci on the FOX broadcast.
