The Washington Redskins are hoping to get quarterback Robert Griffin back in the lineup and starting soon and for now Colt McCoy will be under center and that is bad news for fantasy football owners of Alfred Morris, as the Cowboys could end up stacking the box on him and once again he could have a frustrating and low scoring day, which he has done for most of the season.
McCoy is set to start for Kirk Cousins on Sunday after Cousins played pretty poorly in his last time out and now McCoy could remain until Griffin is ready to return. According to ESPN.com and Pro Football Talk, Griffin could return in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, but it likely makes more sense for the team to wait until Week 11, as they have a bye in Week 10. Head coach Jay Gruden said that he will consider the bye week and the reports on Griffin as he comes back from his ankle injury and it's looking like it will be Week 11 for the return.
McCoy comes in after playing last week and he had 128 yards, with most of that coming on his first pass, a TD to Pierre Garcon. McCoy playing is bad news for fantasy owners of Morris, as the Cowboys now can zero in on him and stack the box against the Redskins. Morris has 440 yards this season and has been extremely frustrating, as he is averaging just 3.8 yards per carry.
Griffin is a dynamic player with tons of talent, but he has not been able to remain healthy through his three year career. Griffin has been the exact opposite for Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson, as they have been able to avoid injuries since starting off following the 2012 draft. Griffin had a great rookie season and only missed one game and took his team to the playoffs for the first time in years, but they lost to the Seahawks and the injury Griffin sustained lingered into the next season.
Griffin is not a diva, but he has attitude issues that Wilson and Luck have never shown. Griffin often takes umbrage with the media (who yes, are crazy down in DC, but still, be a professional) and often turns things into a "me against the world" type situation. Griffin only exacerbated the issues with him and Mike Shanahan and he also put himself and the team in a tough situation with his brand "campaign" to get ready for Week 1 last season. Clearly that did not work out, as Griffin did not last the year and the Redskins were one of the worst teams in the league.
Last season Griffin played in 13 games and had 3203 passing yards, which was about in line with what he did the previous season. The biggest changes were in his rushing yards, which almost were cut in half, while his TD passes went down and his interceptions more than doubled. Griffin is a star, but he is an injury prone star and has now played in just two games this season.
