Ken Rosenthal believes the Boston Red Sox could get away with a deal that would send Carl Crawford to the Miami Marlins for either third baseman Hanley Ramirez or shortstop Jose Reyes.
Picture Reyes getting a hold of one and sending it into the triangle in right-center field at Fenway Park. That is more than likely an inside the park home run.
Red Sox fans would go crazy and Big Papi would have another fellow Dominican firing up the clubhouse.
Now come back to reality.
Carl Crawford is not the same Carl Crawford who played nine season with the Tampa Bay Rays. He has struggled and has elbow problems.
Also, do not forget, the Red Sox signed him to a ridiculous 7-year $142 million contract.
The reason why Reyes would make sense, however, is because he is owed $96 million in the next five years. Crawford will be owed $102.5 million.
The Red Sox can add another piece to the trade, maybe shortstop prospect Jose Iglesias for pitcher Anibal Sanchez.
Boston could also settle for a former prospect of theirs who was traded over to the Marlins for Josh Beckett, Hanley Ramirez.
Though Ramirez has laid low in 2012, but Miami Marlins official are still frustrated with the third baseman, so says Ken Rosenthal.
Rosenthal suggested sending Mike Aviles together with Crawford in exchange for Hanley and Carlos Lee.
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said that the club is happy with Crawford's recovery so far and plan on sticking with him.
However, when the deadline approaches, we will see if the Red Sox are truly loyal to a struggling and possibly injured Carl Crawford.
