RG3 Inks Four-Year Contract Deal With Washington Redskins Worth, $21 Million

Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins ended their contract stalemate with a four-year, fully guaranteed deal worth $21.1 million, with a club option for a fifth year.

RG3 announced the news on Twitter:

"Well people....It's Time to go to Work!!! Off the unemployment line and oh yeah HTTR!!!"

The initials stand for "Hail To The Redskins," the team's fight song.

RG3, the second-overall draft pick, is the first of the top eight picks to sign. He was also the first of that group to face a deadline to report to training camp.

RG3 will be on the field Wednesday for the third day of a five-day rookie camp. He was not considered a holdout because training camp doesn't begin officially until July 26.

Before drafting RG3 No. 2 overall out of Baylor, the Redskins were in search of a quarterback to rebuild their franchise around. They did so, in bold fashion, by trading three first-round picks and a second-rounder to the St. Louis Rams to move into the No. 2 slot.

After the rookie minicamp in May, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan placed RG3 at the top of the team's depth chart with the belief that he possessed the abilities to do things that hasn't been done in the NFL.

"He's the starter. Period," Shanahan said.

Shanahan selected RG3 has the starter ahead of Rex Grossman on the final day of rookie minicamp in May.

RG3's agreement leaves offensive lineman Josh LeRibeus, a third-round selection, as Washington's only unsigned draft pick.
