Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Tony Romo Injury Forces Johnny Manziel Trade? Mark Sanchez, Ryan Mallett, Colt McCoy Options as Jerry Jones Optimistic QB Plays Week 9

The Dallas Cowboys suffered their first loss in six games to the Washington Redskins who are currently hanging out at the bottom of their division. The loss certainly does not derail the playoff-contending season the Cowboys are putting together at the moment, but the injuries suffered during the game could. If there is one thing the Cowboys cannot afford right now, it is injuries to their biggest stars and that includes Tony Romo who left the game briefly for back issues. Could Dallas make a trade to acquire some insurance for the quarterback?

Cowboys' fans held their breath at Romo headed to the locker room in the middle of a tight Monday Night Football matchup. The quarterback took a knee to the back from linebacker Keenan Robinson as he was being sacked in the third quarterback. He remained on the field while the training staff took a look at hime before getting up and heading to the locker room. Backup quarterback Brandon Weeden filled in and managed to get the Cowboys 10 points before Romo stepped back in.

The issue with Romo is the fact that his back has been a problem for the past few seasons. The quarterback had offseason surgery to correct problems and has since stressed that he will be fine, but can the Cowboys take the risk? ESPN.com reports that Romo will undergo an MRI after x-rays appeared negative following the game. He is optimistic about playing on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Should the Cowboys consider adding another quarterback to the roster at the trade deadline? Weeden is not the quarterback that can carry the team is necessary. He is also not a long-term option should Romo's back issues continue to linger for seasons to come. The options are limited for Dallas, but there are a few players that might be able to give the Cowboys piece of mind should Romo take another knee to the back.

In a perfect world, the Cowboys trade for Johnny Manziel. While this trade is not going to happen, it is not crazy to consider. Jerry Jones has made it very clear that he heavily considered drafting Manziel back in the spring. With Brian Hoyer playing well, the quarterback is expendable for the Browns. Manziel would cost too much for the Cowboys at this point in the season, but crazier things have happened.

Mark Sanchez is another option. Chip Kelly said earlier in the season that the quarterback was available for the right deal. Sanchez has plenty of starting experience and with quality playmakers around him, the quarterback could be successful if need be. One player not worth the pickup is Kirk Cousins who has suffered a steep fall from grace following a demotion with the Washington Redskins.
